The Story of How She Met Him
Hi. My name is Jackie and this is my story.
It was the beginning of the second half of Fall semester 2007 at Irvine Valley College. On a dark winter night, I casually left my friend’s apartment to go to my tennis class. This class was only half a semester so I thought it’d be something fast and simple. Little did i know that i was going to meet my future husband there. The class was only Tuesdays and Thursdays. Nothing much happened on the first day. I saw Paul and thought to myself “oh he’s cute…has a big nose…eh whatever”, then walked to find a seat. After two hours of class, I went home.
On the second day of class, we got more into playing tennis. After class was over, I went to grab my stuff, ready to go home for night when suddenly I heard someone behind me say “the class is too short”. I turned around, seeing that no one was responding to him, said “uh yeah.” I then continued packing my stuff to go home, when he suddenly continued, what at first seemed like a one-sided conversation, by asking me if I wanted to stay and play some more as he had some balls in his car. Me, having nothing better to do at home, decided to accept his offer and continue playing tennis that night. We had a good rally going on when all of a sudden, he shouts “Loser buys boba!” Oh now he’s done it. My inner competitive self immediately lights up and i shout back “You’re on!” Okay, well we all know how that turned out. I, of course, kicked his @ss and happily drank my boba at Tapioca Express shortly after. The night ended, I had fun. Went home and secretly Facebook stalked him. Found him and sent him a friend request. He gladly accepted and messaged me, “Yay, you found me!” Okay, now I know he was overly happy. I usually don’t do “yays” or anything, but i thought, “hey, why not?” So i replied back with “Yay!” I had a paper to write that night, so we didn’t chat much.
The following Tuesday was class again; but this was during that time when there were so many forest fires going on. When I got to class, the tennis courts were full of ashes and there was a sign telling us that class was cancelled. I walked away thinking I’d just go home, when Paul was suddenly walking towards me telling me how bummed he is about class being cancelled. I was like, “yeah, I know.” To my surprise, he asked if I wanted to play anyway. Having nothing to do at home (if you haven’t noticed already, i usually have nothing to do at home), i said “Sure!” So on we played on the ashy courts. Dirty, but we had fun. Again, we went for boba. I was leading the way this time and kind of forgot which boba place we originally went to. (Just a recap, we went to Tap X originally) (Also, If you don’t know the area around IVC really well, there is a Lollicup and a Tap X across the street from each other on Jefferey). I took us to Lollicup. We had our drink. Sat and chatted for awhile before heading out. While outside, he asked for my number; you know, in case he wanted to contact me and all. Dun dun dun! I said, “sure, okay.”
We are now where we are because of this and that 🙂
