The Proposal

On Friday, February 10, 2012, after a long day of work, the couple arrived at Irvine Spectrum for a date night. Little did Jackie know that it will be night engraved in history as a life changing event for both of them. Hand in hand, they browsed the shops while enjoying the OC breeze and the sparkling lights that Spectrum offers. A typical night, typical date, but an extraordinary atmosphere.

As the night progressed, Paul slowly guided the girl of his dreams towards the night’s final destination. While hiding the ring box in his coat pocket all night, Paul skillfully maneuvers Jackie about him so she would not suspect the mysterious container within the coat pocket. As they inched their way closer and closer to the destination, Paul realized that he really don’t have a plan going forward, which is rare of him.

Excitement and nervousness brewed within him for every step they take. Finally, they have arrived. Staring up at gigantic ferris wheel, Paul contemplated on his next approach. Being as casual as possible, Paul suggested for them to take a ride but it was no easy task since Jackie questioned his sudden interest in this specific ride at this specific time.

Eventually Jackie let her guard down and followed into one of the many cabins. They say down, strapped in, holding onto dear life as the ride took them higher and higher. Both of them not wanting to look down or around since the fear of heights has stopped them in their tracks even though this wasn’t the first time they been on this particular ferris wheel. Memories of the past rushed through their heads as they stared blankly at each other in order to get their mind off their surroundings.

Once the carriage reached the top, Paul decided it is time to break the silence. As he struggles to unstraps his safety belt and move about the cabin, Jackie frantically asked him what he was doing. Finally, freeing himself from his restraints and not wanting to fall from the insane height, Paul quickly turned around and kneeled down to the best of his abilities given the insanely compact space. Paul took out the polished box from his coat and asked in a shaky shy voice “Will you marry me?”.
